It has been pointed out that we tend to use the names Alton Lake, Alton Pool and Mississippi River interchangably. Alton Lake or Alton Pool refers to that portion of the Mississippi between lock and dams 26 and 25. The river within this 36 mile stretch varies in width but is about a mile wide where ALSA is located.
Although ALSA has enjoyed many seasons with minimal flooding those years have been the exception. The trend since about '93 has been towards fairly severe flooding lasting until almost July. It's a shame to have the sailing season cut short but at least the outhouse gets flushed once a year!

Upcoming Events
Several events have been planned for the next months, two are work parties and the rest are fun activities. Members have volunteered to take responsibility for most activities but they will need help to make each event a success and we still need someone to take care of organizing lunch for the fall harbor shutdown.
